We are proud to announce the launch of a new partnership between Tanglewood Group Ltd. and RAF Drone Racing part of the long-standing RAF Model Aircraft Association.
Drone racing is one of the fastest‑growing precision sports within the RAF, combining cutting‑edge technology with the high‑skill demands of first‑person‑view (FPV) flight. The sport provides a unique environment for developing the rapid decision‑making, spatial awareness, and fine motor control essential to modern aviation roles.
A key showcase of these skills is the Military International Drone Racing Tournament (MIDRT), the premier global competition for military FPV pilots.
This year, the RAF Drone Racing Team travelled to Sydney, Australia, to compete in MIDRT 26, the sixth edition of the tournament. The event brought together more than 76 pilots from around the world, representing some of the most talented FPV racers in military service. The RAF achieved 1st place in the ‘payload delivery’ event and finished 7th overall.
Competing both as a team and as individual pilots, the RAF delivered an exceptional performance against world‑class international competition — a testament to their dedication, technical mastery, and the growing strength of drone racing within the RAF community.
“Tanglewood Group Ltd is proud to be a sponsor of RAF Drone Racing and RAF Model Aircraft Association. We are passionate about supporting innovation, performance, and the development of future-ready skills. We have a long-term association with the RAF and the team’s activities complement many areas of our business, therefore, Tanglewood’s collaboration with RAF Drone Racing is sure to benefit both parties, help grow the sport, expand opportunities for personnel, and contribute to its continued success.” Ryan Parfett, Tanglewood Group Managing Director
“We are really excited about this partnership with Tanglewood Group as it will elevate the racing opportunities available to RAF personnel and help grow the sport’s potential. We look forward to flying side by side with the Tanglewood team and discovering what we can learn from each other.” Simon Fassler, RAF Drone Racing
